Family Argentinidae

Distribution: Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific. Eyes not tubular . Adipose fin over anal fin base . With postcleithra and mesocoracoid . Origin of dorsal fin in front of pelvics . Pectoral fin base on ventrolateral surface. Fin rays : dorsal 10-14, anal 10-17, pectoral 11-25, pelvic 10-15. Brachiostegal 4-6 rays . Vertebrae 43-70 (many with 46-55).The family Argentinidae belongs to the Class Actinopterygii (ray-finned fishes ) and the Order Osmeriformes. It contains 2 genera and 19 species. It may be found in Marine environments and is primarily Marine. Members of this family are not used in the aquarium trade. Reproductively, most members of this family are nonguarders. The main mode of swimming of adult fish in this family is subcarangiform. Compared with other fish, the activity level of this family tends to be normal. Etymology of this family name : Latin, argentum = silver

Habitat

May be found at depths of 11 to 274 meters.
