Description
Family Moridae
Distribution: circumglobal . Dorsal fins usually 1 or 2, rarely 3. Anal fins 1 or 2. With or without chin barbel . Teeth on head of vomer minute, if present. Swim bladder with otophysic connection to auditory capsules. Benthopelagic to pelagic species ranging from shallow coastal areas to deep waters beyond 2500 m .The family Moridae belongs to the Class Actinopterygii (ray-finned fishes ) and the Order Gadiformes. It contains 18 genera and 100 species. It may be found in Marine environments and is primarily Marine. Members of this family are not used in the aquarium trade. Reproductively, most members of this family are nonguarders. The main mode of swimming of adult fish in this family is subcarangiform. Compared with other fish, the activity level of this family tends to be normal. Members of this family have been dated back to the upper Oligocene epoch of the Tertiary period.
Physical Description
Species Auchenoceros punctatus
Males are commonly 10 cm (Total Length) in length when caught/marketed, but may be as large as 13 cm (Total Length).
Habitat
