Physical Description
Color:
Hindwing has a long dagger-like tail. Upperside is brown-black with lighter margins . Underside of both wings with a white inner half and a dark brown outer half.
Size/Age/Growth
Wing span : 2 3/4 - 3 1/8 inches (7 - 8.1 cm).
Habitat
Tropical forests and openings.
Biology
Diet
Caterpillar hosts: Leaves of trees in the fig family (Moraceae). Adult food: Nectar from Cordia and Croton, dung, and other non-floral resources .
Behavior
Adults
are swift and nimble fliers, and often roost together in small groups under leaves.
Flight: Many flights in Mexico from May-November, July and October in South Texas.
