Genus Echinostelium

Small stipitate sporocarps , up to 0.5 mm tall. Spore-mass colourless, pale Emoto 1977 The Myxomycetes of Japan Sangyo Tosho, Tokyo.llow, ochre or pink. Capillitium , if present, not dichotomous. Almost all spp. are corticolous .

Physical Description

Species Echinostelium corynophorum

Sporocarps 90-150 µm tall. Stalk 50-110 µm long, tapered upward from an expanded base which sometimes contains granular matter, 1.5-3 µm diam. at the apex. Sporotheca 40-60 µm diam., white. Columella hemispheric , borne on a short projection of the stalk, hyaline to yellow brown, 3-5 µm diam., 3.5-6 µm high. Peridium remaining as a 2.5-5 µm diam. collar at the base of the sporotheca Spore-mass white. Spores hyaline, globose , 10-15(-16) µm diam., minutely roughened, bearing pads at points of spore-to-spore contact.

Habitat

Typically found at an altitude of 0 to 1,810 meters (0 to 5,938 feet).Mean = 301.200 meters (988.189 feet), Standard Deviation = 2,015.100 based on 10 observations. Altitude information for each observation from British Oceanographic Data Centre.
