Physical Description

Species Macbrideola herrerae

Sporocarps stalked, 0.6-0.8 mm tall, solitary to gregarious . Sporotheca 0.3-0.5 mm diam., subcylindrical , ovoid to globose . Peridium evanescent , generally persistent in the form of a collar at the base of the sporotheca. Stalk 0.3-0.5 mm high, with the base generally reddish orange to yellowish orange, hollow and non-fibrous, tapered towards the apex. Columella well-developed, dark brown to blackish, reaching the apex of the sporotheca. Hypothallus circular, membranous and reddish brown. Capillitium well-developed, arising from the length of the columella, composed of ± perpendicular, rigid and parallel threads, arising from the columella in groups of 2-4(-6), immediately branching, 2-4 µm diam. and with abundant cavities or craters of variable morphology and distribution, easily observable by LM . This ornamentation can be confirmed by SEM, the threads are smooth or bear nodes. The terminations of the capillitium are free , dichotomous, sometimes variable in length (some larger than others), spiny and dark brown. Spore-mass blackish. Spores 8-10(-11) µm diam., violaceous by TL , with a clearer zone and with strong spines that are evenly scattered . By SEM the spore ornamentation is formed by well defined spines or baculae. On leaf litter of Quercus and Acer, Mexico.
