Stigma

(L. stigma: mark) The upper tip or part of the pistil of a flower receiving the pollen. It is generally situated at the upper extremity of the style and is usually sticky. In insect-pollinated plants the stigmas are held within the flower, whereas in wind-pollinated species they hang outside it.
