ampullary organ
An electroreceptor consisting of receptor cells sunk into the epidermis or located in an epidermal cavity opening to the surface through a duct and pore. The duct may be filled with jelly, e.g. in certain Gymnotidae, Mormyridae and Siluroidei. part of the lateral line system of fish and amphibians, these organs can detect weak electric currents generated by other animals. In fish, these organs are known as ampullae of Lorenzini.
