(Gr. gynę: female; stegos: shelter, roof) (pl. gynostegia) A structure formed from the fusion of the anthers with the stigmatic region of the gynoecium, as in the Asclepiadaceae. A protective covering for a gynaecium, especially as formed by the union of stamens and style. See column.
