(L. siliqua: pod) (pl. siliquae or siliques) The long, dehiscent narrow pod (fruit) of plants of the mustard family, Cruciferae (Brassicaceae), typically more than twice as long as wide, formed from a superior ovary of two carpels, with two parietal placentas and divided into two loculi by a false septum (replum) between the placentas, with valves which fall away from a frame bearing the seeds. Syn. siliqua. See also lomentum.
