a form of invalidation. A name which would be valid according to strict application of the rules of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, may be expressly suppressed by the Commission under its Plenary Powers, to allow validation of another name, which would not otherwise have been valid (i.e. according to the rules of the Code); converts a previously valid name into an invalid one. Names or works may be totally (never used) or conditionally suppressed.
