(Gr. syn: with, together; karpos, fruit) A multiple or aggregate fruit derived from numerous separate ovaries of a single flower; a collective unit, as a blackberry. An intermediate stage of apocarp and paracarp, the contact zones fusing, forming septa, but leaving the individual carpels unchanged (axile placentation).
