A division of the perianth, a sepal or a petal, of a flower in which the calyx and corolla are almost identical in appearances and not readily differentiated; tepal are common in many groups of monocots, as in tulips and lilies. In Orchidaceae, this term refers to any sepal or petal, except the labellum.
